Carey and his father both appeared in the classic Howard Hawks western, "Red River" (1948) although, they did not share any scenes together. Anderson, and "Back to the Future Part III" (1990), in which he made a cameo appearance as a saloon old-timer. He has been a familiar fixture in westerns, but has appeared in a wide range of genres, from popular series of the 1960s, including the crime drama series "Perry Mason" (1957–1966), to cult classic films of the 1980s, including "Gremlins" (1984), in which he played Mr. He has appeared in more than 150 movies and television shows in a career spanning 65 years. is a prolific American film and television character actor. If you're strong enough, you can rip out toilets off their pipes and throw those. You can also get around character weakness with smart play, such as running and breaking through grabs, or using the environment by throwing chairs at zombies. This can change some if you get your characters really great weapons and maxed out shooting/strength/fitness stats, but even then you need to hoard ammo, explosives, and gas for the worst situations. Players can get cornered by sheer numbers, they get tired and weak from melee attacks, and they can have difficulty snap-aiming firearms. The zombies have to be dangerous in groups, so you're afraid of them.Ĭharacters were designed to encourage trying to sneak through hordes of zombies before they get too upset or numerous, and flee when they can. They can't just mow down 200 zombies with a baseball bat or machete. The other part of the "slow zombie design" is having player characters feel more human. The characters all have a very particular feel in terms of their movement and when in combat. Then 200 of them can be active and track you at once, follow your scent, grab you, break barricades down, wear you down, tire you out. So we wanted to do one zombie type, slow and weak, but they're in crowds that can become so big they cover the screen. The slow zombies design problem eventually lead to the fast zombies + fat zombies that explode + the one tongue zombie design that became the popular thing to do for videogames. The human bosses were dangerous, but the zombies weren't. The Dead Rising series tried but the zombies in that were mostly punching bags. There's not a lot of games that do slow zombies correctly, at least that I know of. I think most games gave up on this concept. So what was it inspired you to make the game in the first place? After that switch flipped we decided to make the game as goofy as possible, which also lead to ideas to make it a lighthearted, vaguely optimistic zombie apocalypse. It really made me think of unintentionally goofy moments in the zombie genre, which made the game get really absurd real quick. This changed as soon as I saw the episode of The Walking Dead where the main character screamed CORAL for 20 minutes. I think the original intent, way early in the design process, may have been to make a serious zombie game. What can you tell us about this and was it your intention to make a absurd zombie game, or did you make a zombie game that turned absurd over time? You've gone for a very tongue-in-cheek tone, from the name of the game down to some fun personalities. You also make tough moral decisions, like what button to press on a futuristic toilet or if one of your characters should get their head replaced with a dog's head. You make and find weird characters with their own skills and personalities, then have your group explore procedurally generated locations for ammo, weapons, and cans of food until they get eaten by massive, massive hordes of slow zombies. What is Death Road to Canada?ĭeath Road to Canada is a randomly generated road trip game about getting a car full of jerks from Florida to Canada, the last nation on Earth. And so, without further ado, here is that Q&A, complete with a bunch of screens that show off the PC version of the game. We sat down and played it on PC for the first time recently, and we enjoyed what we saw, and so when we were offered the chance to fire some questions over to creator Kepa Auwae from Rocketcat Games, we jumped at the chance. It's a unique proposition, then, and zombie fans on PS4, Switch, and Xbox should definitely keep an eye on the game as it nears its console debut. Imagine the lovechild of FTL: Faster Than Light and Dead Rising raised in a family of classic Lucasarts point and click adventures and you'd be somewhere in the right ballpark. The characters are flawed and a bit silly, the atmosphere is grim yet playful, and the presentation is retro yet fresh. Deciding to take a trip from Miami to Ontario, the player must recruit NPCs and make their way up the highways of America, stopping to grab supplies and smash zombies in the head whenever the opportunity arises. As alluded to before, the dead have risen and civilisation as we know it is over. When it does make the jump to console later this spring, a zany, often absurd road trip awaits. After impressing plenty of people following its original launch on PC back in 2016, the creators of this well-received title started to focus their attention on bringing the game to consoles, namely PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. Like the shuffling zombies that populate this quirky post-apocalyptic adventure, Death Road to Canada is on the rise. Upon Vevo's launch, many YouTube videos added by Vevo over the course of the year had their views inflated. The site went live on December 8, 2009, and later that same month became the number one most visited music site in the United States, overtaking Myspace Music. SME reached a deal to add its content to the site in June 2009. UMG acquired the domain name on November 20, 2008. The site's other revenue sources include a merchandise store and referral links to purchase viewed songs on Amazon Music and iTunes. The concept for Vevo was described as being a streaming service for music videos (similar to the Hulu streaming service for movies and TV shows after they air), with the goal being to attract more high-end advertisers. Vevo's second logo, used from March 2013 until July 2016 In August 2015, Vevo expressed renewed interest in licensing music from WMG and a deal with WMG was completed on August 2, 2016, making again the entirety of the "big three" record companies' music available on Vevo. Originally, Warner Music Group was reported to be considering hosting its content on the service after it launched, but formed an alliance with rival MTV Networks (now Paramount Media Networks). Initially, the service hosted only music videos from Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, syndicated on YouTube and its app, and the advertising revenue was shared by Google and Vevo. In August 2016, Warner Music Group (WMG), the world's third-largest record company, agreed to license premium videos from its artists to Vevo. The service was concluded after negotiations on June 16, 2009, as a joint venture among three major record companies: Universal Music Group (UMG), Sony Music Entertainment (SME) and shortly before its launch by EMI. The service once offered a consumer mobile and tablet app however this was shut down in May 2018 to allow the service to focus on its other platforms. The service is also available as an app on selected smart TVs, digital video recorders, digital media players and streaming television services. FamilySearch is the largest genealogy database in the world and is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints but is completely free to use. is extremely powerful and has access to over 20 billion historical records, although it has more data for European users than those in the USA. There are now powerful online ancestry databases such as MyHeritage DNA, FamilySearch and Heredis which can help build your family tree far quicker than having to research things yourself. Genealogy research is increasingly moving online making it much easier for relatives to find each other and research their past. It’s best to check with the vendor about this if you’re not sure.īefore choosing which app is best for you, there are some important things to be aware of to choose the best genealogy software for your needs. If you have been using a Windows based family tree program and would like to continue using it on your Mac, you can also run Windows on your Mac although we recommend checking out the options in these reviews first.Īll of the programs featured here work on the latest versions of macOS including Mojave, Catalina and Big Sur unless stated otherwise.īe careful however with macOS Catalina, Big Sur and Monterey as the latest versions of macOS only support 64-bit applications and many family tree programs only work on 32-bit Macs. Nowadays anyone can dig deeper into their genetic roots than ever before thanks to amazing tools like MyHeritage which can trace back your family DNA for generations. Here we look at the best family tree software for Mac in 2023 to trace your roots.Īlthough the majority of family tree programs out there are still Windows based, there are now some very good free and paid genealogy software for Mac now available.įamily Tree apps differ from Genogram software which are used more by social workers and psychologists to trace family issue rather than hereditary lines. Tracing your family tree can be a fascinating and sometimes life changing experience. It has worked in anything I have thrown at it so far. Basically, I want to use a key that doesn't interfere with my OS or Game at all.I'm using a Razer Deathadder Chroma and decided to use the side buttons for push-to-talk, but the problem is,Razer Synapse requires a Keyboard key ,that the mouse button should trigger. Go to Discord and set PTT to F13 (by pressing your newly rebound Mouse5 key). I got a problem with Discord and other VoIP software. Shut down AHK script (You only need it for rebinding)ĥ. Click on Add a Keybind button and in the actions tab, open the drop-down and select push to talk (Normal) or Push to talk (Priority) and assign a Key to it. Assign a hotkey to activate your microphone by clicking. Under Input Mode, check the box next to Push to Talk. Within the App Settings section, select the Voice & Video listing on the left side of the window. Rebind it and press the Mouse5 key which should input "F13" (It did in my Logitech program).Ĥ. From there, open the Settings menu by clicking the gear icon in the bottom left of the Discord interface. Go to your mouse program and find the Mouse5 key. I use Mouse5 (Forward in browsers) as PTT key.ģ. PTT will work but I am not sure of the consequences of this as I didn't test it. Now go back to Settings > Voice ( Voice & Video). Hit Stop Recording to save your preference. Once you’ve got that into place, click on Record Keybind and press the key that you want to use as a Push to Talk toggle. Now make sure you choose Push to Talk as the action. Note: You could keep the AHK script on at all times and not change the key in your mouse application, but for some reason Discord will bind the PTT key to "Mouse4 + F13" (Mouse4 in Discord is Mouse5 everywhere else). Once you’re there, tap on Add a Keybind (top-right corner). If you have a mouse where you can rebind buttons, you don't need autohotkey script permanently on, but only for the initial setup. I use Discord like OP and for any future users who come in here looking for answers, I will describe what I did. Long have I searched for a consistent way to use PTT because either the key bound is in use or sometimes the game even screws with "discard hotkey" functions. This is especially useful if you live in an area. AHK should cause suppression of the XButton1 for you, and instead replace it with F13, which should have no effect in any program except Discord. The Push-to-Talk feature in Discord allows you to create a button by pressing which, your mic will be enabled and you will be able to communicate. Now set F13 to be your PTT key in Discord. So you can use XButton1::F13 to remap the XButton1 command to be F13. These are the circumstances that are part of what prompted me to write an article comparing different replacements for TouchDown. I kept using it when Symantec bought it and recently, after having to reset my phone to solve another problem, I reinstalled it, but I had to install the license file from a backup on my SD Card because it no longer exists in the play store, due to Symantec's EOL (End of Life) of the product. I continued to use TD through approximately 5-6 phones. TouchDown was one of the only email apps that also implemented this feature so for me it was well worth it. Outlook for Windows seems to have always done this. What I needed above all else was the ability to see ALL unread emails in ALL folders at once. When, several years later, it came out for iOS, I tried it immediately and immediately found it falling short :-( I bought TouchDown because I considered it to be the best email program for Exchange email out there, hands down. This is so much of a hassle, yet at the same time so important, that many years ago I purchased TouchDown HD for Android from NitroDesk. I have hundreds of folders and subfolders that these rules move emails into. I have nearly 200 rules (all server-side, which means they can run whether or not my desktop email program is running). I may be on the far end of the needy scale. On the other hand, if you have a lot of rules in Exchange that put incoming email in different folders for you, the built-in email apps will not suffice. For this type of user, the built-in email apps are fine. Almost all email programs will be able to handle scenarios where the email remains in the inbox until it's read or discarded. Others will read and delete it, still, others have rules set up so that anything from that address goes to a certain folder. Some people have a blasts folder that they put this type of mail into after they see it in their inbox. The From field is (or something similar), the To field contains a list email, which means it goes to nearly everyone and the Subject line is "New benefits information" without the quotes. Let's say an email comes in from your benefits office. If you are like most people, you let nearly everything come into your inbox first and then, if you want to keep some semblance of order, move different items to different folders, either as subfolders of your inbox or as completely separate folders. The first and foremost item that changes how you will look at these email applications is how you personally use your exchange email. Rather, I will look at what I consider to be a good representation from those listed.ĭespite its End-of-Life status, TouchDown will be included in the reviews because it will serve as a baseline for the alternatives.īefore going any further, I should explain a couple of things that will affect your choice. I will not be reviewing all of the above apps as it would just end up creating a review article that is useless. A few of the email applications that you might run into while looking for a TouchDown alternative, or looking for an email app for your Android phone for the first time are: Steinway & Sons have approved the sound and playability of the virtual instruments Steinway Model D and Steinway Model B, which have gained from the refined physical model. In addition to the Standard version, it gives you all the tools needed to work in a truly professional environment, letting you adjust 30 parameters for each note on the keyboard and work with up to 192 Khz audio. Pianoteq PRO is the most advanced version, adapted for the creative composer and demanding studio engineer. You can upgrade to the Standard or PRO version at any time. The stage includes the same instruments, sounds, and playability as in Standard and PRO. Pianoteq Stage is the choice of the budget-minded musician who does not need to modify the sound. You can upgrade to the PRO version at any time. You can place up to 5 virtual microphones around the instrument and load external reverb impulse files. Pianoteq Standard for macOS offers unique powerful tools to enhance and modify the sound, such as changing the unison width, hammer hardness, and string length. It becomes, more than ever, an immense joy to play. Version 6 of the app brings numerous refinements in its engine and physical model, increasing realism and acoustic presence on all its instruments: acoustic pianos, electro-acoustic pianos, historical instruments, and chromatic percussion. By omitting the usage of samples, the file size is just a tiny fraction of that offered by other virtual instruments, perfect for use on any modern laptop. What makes the app superior to other virtual instruments is that the instruments are physically modeled and thus can simulate the playability and complex behavior of real acoustic instruments. It can be used both in standalone mode and as an instrument plug-in in VST, AAX, and AudioUnits hosts. Pianoteq for Mac is an award-winning virtual instrument that you can install on your computer (PC/Mac). Good God, you still get that? In 2010? I am an user who only starts a new session of tabs when he install the browser. "Then, maybe your browser crashes or your system reboots or something locks up or you get confused as to why you wanted to read that in the first place." No offense but sometimes my jaw just drops in amazement when I see the convoluted solutions people go to so that they can get away with using their browser in the most archaic way as possible. I really need to make a Youtube video showing how much quicker this approach is, but I just haven't had time to do so yet. I'll open an entire album's worth of pictures on facebook with each image in it's own tab (saves waiting for image load time), then flip through them by swiping the scroll wheel left/right or pressing the tab-close button on the mouse. You can't imagine how quickly you can open up, read, and close tabs using this kind of a setup. I can currently perform all of the above mentioned task as well as Zoom in and out and perform multi-select all using buttons on the mouse. The single most important thing that I have done in the last few years regarding productivity is buying a better mouse with more buttons and configure those buttons specifically for my most common application tasks. Then you just have to optimize your tab management tasks: Opening, closing, re-using, re-arranging, and tab switching. I may try using instapaper to fill that hole.Īlso, while 43 tabs may be a bit much, I find that I can comfortably work on a dual monitor machine with a dozen tabs open on each monitor. The folders get synced to all of my other computers, so they work well for saving pages for long term, but I do sometimes have issues where I start reading something from Google Reader and then get side tracked and never come back to it. I use a combination of Google Reader and ToRead/ToWatch/ToCode/ToBlog/ToBuy folders in Google Chrome. I find that the simple introduction of these two tools, Instapaper for Reading Later and Readability for Reading Now not only allow me to consume and collect MORE information than before, but I'm slightly less stressed out while I'm doing it. I have another bookmarklet called Readability.Īnd as Rob Conery likes to say pressing it "is like closing the car windows while driving on the freeway." Recently I wanted to read this article on overclocking my motherboard. Sometimes I want to read something right now, but the site I'm looking at is just too busy. I can of course also read from my phone (I'm working on a Windows Phone 7 version) or whatever device makes me happy. Everything here is focused on text and making the content I'm consuming more soluble. It also adds a little bar at the top where I can select between readable fonts, change the width, font size and line spacing. The Instapaper filter is a lot like Readability (more on that later) in that it removes the non-content parts of the article. I'll click "Text" for Phil's article using a filter. Here's an interesting bit, while I can click the link for Phil and visit his site, I don't. It knows what I've read, what I've starred and what's been articled. There's the articles I've saved lately, with new ones first. I've got time and I've collected a few interesting bits that I'm looking forward to reading. I'll click "Read Later" in my bookmarks bar, and I see this notification.įast forward some hours. I visit the page and while it looks interesting, he's SO loquacious and I'm busy now. Lets say I see this article by Phil Haack tweeted. You can even have your Instapaper queue sent over to your Kindle if it makes you happy. Anywhere you find stuff you want to read later. The bookmarklet even works from within Google Reader. If it's not setup on all your machines in any browser where you might find content, you'll fall back to old habits and not use it. I've got a bookmarklet for Instapaper in my bookmark bar on all my computers in all my browsers. Whenever you find something long that you KNOW you want to read but you just don't have time now, don't open a tab. You'll either Read It Now or Read It Later. Here's what I do.Ĭonsider this new workflow. This is not cool and I refuse to use the web in this way anymore. Then, maybe your browser crashes or your system reboots or something locks up or you get confused as to why you wanted to read that in the first place. Then, at some point in your copious free time, and possibly while reading other more pressing things, you'll read these 43 tabs, right? Even better, some of the articles are 8 pages long so you'll load up pages 1-4 and 6 and you don't even know why. You get a link in email, Twitter, Facebook, IM, whatever and you open it in a new tab. |
